If you’re like me, then you have a hard time drinking water throughout the day. I honestly hate drinking water. But I do it because 1) it keeps my migraines away. 2) it’s great for your skin. 3) staying hydrated is super important.
According to the Mayo Clinic, men are supposed to drink almost 16 cups of water a day, and women are supposed to drink almost 12 cups. That is literally so much water to me, so I try to drink at least 10 cups of water a day.
That alone makes a huge difference for me. So here are my tips and recommendations on different ways to get you to drink more water.
1. Morning Chug
Basically, pour yourself 16 oz of water, either the night before or right when you wake up and just chug all that water. You lose the most moisture while you sleep because that’s like 8 hours of no water. This is also why it’s so important you moisturize your skin before bed.
I’ve also been trying to chug another 16 oz before bed so that I have that water in my system while I sleep. The only problem is that I usually have to pee pretty bad in the morning or I’ll wake up in the middle of the night to pee.
So I can understand why most people just chug water in the morning. If that’s something you prefer then definitely make sure you’re getting that water in the morning at least.
2. Carry A Water Container
I consume way more water just by carrying a water bottle around. Originally, I mentioned in my At-Home Gym Must-Haves that I use a Hydro Flask regularly. But the company Super Sparrow was kind enough to send me some of their water bottles to try and I’m surprised to say that I actually really like them.
They sent me one of each different type of water bottle, the sports bottle, the small mouth flask, and the regular container with a straw attachment, and they’re all great. Don’t get me wrong, there are cons but I think the pros definitely outweigh the bad.
One con is that the sports water doesn’t keep your water cold. It’s a plastic, see-through container so of course, I didn’t expect it too. I just added ice and it was fine. I did notice that I would drink it water faster because it would get warmer. In turn, this made me drink way more water.
Another con was that the regular and smallmouth water containers both got dented pretty quickly. However, I have two 13 months old and they love throwing and banging things so I’m not surprised that they got beat up so fast. Those were the only two cons I could find with the Super Sparrow Water Bottles.
Everything else was great. Besides the sports bottle, the water stayed cool. I could easily measure how much water I was drinking with the sports bottle. They have a variety of sizes and colors. I recommend checking them out.
3. Infuse Your Water
This tip I don’t particularly like, but I know tons I people have recommended it to me. If you don’t like the lack of flavor that water has then this tip might be able to help you drink more water. You could add fruits and vegetables to your water to infuse it and make it more flavored.
On the off chance I drink infused water, I prefer lemons or cucumbers in my water. I have to admit that those two items in my water make it more refreshing for me. I also feel a little classier, if that makes sense? They make water fancier for some reason.
Another way to infuse water is by adding flavor packets or tea too it. I was a huge fan of Crystal Light’s peach tea. It’s so delicious. The only downside is that with the water comes sugar and caffeine and that’s kind of counterproductive. Still, it will help you drink more ”water.”
4. Exercise Regularly
This is kind of an obvious one, but I feel like the combination of working out and drinking water is underrated. I drink so much water when I work out for just an hour. I can drink 40 oz of water in that one hour. That’s 5 cups.
If you add those 5 cups to the 2 cups you chugged that’s already 7 cups of water. If you do both in the morning, that means you only have 3-5 cups of water left for the rest of the day. And if you choose to chug another 2 cups before bed like me, that leaves 1-3 cups of water throughout the day.
That was so much math. Long story short, exercising daily would not only be good for losing weight and gaining muscle, but it also helps you drink more water.
5. Water Cooler
My last recommendation to drink more water is to invest in a water cooler. Yes, I am talking about the ones they have in office buildings.
The water in Hawai’i doesn’t have fluoride in it and the tap water here has been known to have metal in it. Knowing this, my mom invested in a water cooler when I was a kid as a piece of mine.
Now that I live on my own, my husband and I have also invested in one. Before, my husband thought we were crazy for having one, but now he loves it and says he can never go back to not having one. We get 4 ten gallon jugs every two weeks. It used to be 3, but we’ve only been drinking more and more water.
This is why I had to add it to this list. Your water comes out instantly cold so you don’t need ice, it’s clean and purified, the jugs of water are delivered directly to your door, it reduces our use of single-use plastic bottles, and it makes us drink more water.
So definitely think about investing in a water cooler if you can. I think we pay about $80 a month for ours so it’s not crazy expensive for the machine or the amount of water we drink, and that’s coming from frugal me. This item is a must-have for my home.
These are my tips and recommendations for drinking more water throughout the day. I know doing these things has definitely helped me drink more water so I know they could help you too. Comment down below how you drink more water throughout the day or which trick you want to try.
