12 Intimate & Budget Friendly Date Ideas

These are intimate and budget friendly date ideas that I have done myself and loved so I thought it would be great to share them with all of you. I know with everything going on in the world nowadays, it can be hard to come up with safe and romantic date ideas. If you prefer more at-home date ideas for you and your significant other, checkout this blog.

When my husband and I first started dating, I tried to come up with as many free (or budget friendly) date ideas that were fun, adventurous, intimate, and romantic.

I didn’t have a lot of money and felt bad when he would pay for dates. So I thought coming up with dates that were budget friendly or free could be my way of giving back to him.

I wanted to do what I could because I always felt like I could never show how appreciative I am to him. He would just say that it was never a big deal though. Still, I would try any way I could.

My husband (boyfriend at the time) really liked my date ideas, so I always tried to come up with something new or creative.

I hope some of these ideas spark some inspiration and create happy memories for you and your loved one. There’s something for everyone. Let me know in the comments below which date is your favorite.

12 Intimate & Budget Friendly Date Ideas

Free Date Ideas That Are Outdoors:

1. Hiking

This budget friendly date idea is super easy to do and incredibly fun! I once went on a four hour hike with my husband, and while I don’t recommend hiking for that long, it was such an adventure and I got to spend a lot of quality time with him. Was I super sore afterwards? Yes. Yes, I was.

2. Picnic

This is a great date idea that’s budget friendly. You can even go the extra mile and make your food together. You don’t have to order anything. Just assemble some sandwiches or snacks with things you already have at home, grab a big blanket, and that’s all you need.

3. Beach Day

This is probably the easiest and most budget friendly date idea possible. Just a towel, some sunscreen, and you are good to go. Just lounging in the sun and relaxing. It’s a great way to spend time together and get to know one another a little better.

4. Stargazing

Stargazing is so romantic, intimate, and easy on the wallet. This is by far one of my husband and I’s favorite dates to go on. I love stars (and the night in general) so I enjoyed going stargazing in particular. Plus, if it’s cold, it’s a good excuse to do some cuddling.

5. Watching The Sunset/Sunrise

Similar to stargazing, watching the sun set and rise can be so fun and beautiful to watch. I’m not much of a morning person, but the few times I have made it up to watch the sun rise are so peaceful and relaxing. Especially at the beach when it’s empty and all you can hear is the crashing of the waves on the shore.

Free Date Ideas That Are Indoor:

6. Wine & Paint

I know there are some businesses that do wine & paint night but, if that option is too expensive, you can always do it at home for free! I have a lot of painting supplies and wine (which I’m sure a lot of people have at home) so this is such an easy and budget friendly date idea. Not to mention loads of fun!

7. Movie Night In

This is my husband and I’s go to date idea. Especially since becoming parents and we are often too tired to go out. We’ll put on a movie we own or from a streaming site. Or if we feel like splurging a little, we’ll rent a movie we haven’t seen or haven’t seen in a while. My husband loves movies so we often do this for date night.

8. Fancy At-Home Dinner

What I mean by “fancy” is that you both make a spectacle of dinner at home. You can use whatever you have at home so it’s still a budget friendly date idea. Set up a table with candles and flowers to create some ambiance, make something delicious, have some drinks, wonderful conversation, and enjoy your food together.

9. Amateur Photoshoot

Personally, this is one of my favorite budget friendly date idea, but my husband isn’t a huge fan of taking photos. He’ll do it for me though and I try to make it as enjoyable as possible. I love creating memories and having the photos to decorate the house with. You don’t need anything but your phone or a camera (if you have one). It’s simple and can still be a ton of fun.

Budget Friendly Date Ideas:

10. Botanical Gardens

I love going to botanical gardens. There’s a ton here in Hawai’i with all kinds of beautiful flowers and trees. You usually have to pay a small fee to get in, but then you can spend the entire day inside and even enjoy a picnic if that’s what you’d like to do. The only things are the mosquitos so be sure to wear bug spray.

11. Museums

Another favorite budget friendly date idea of ours is going to museums. A lot of the museums in Hawai’i are discounted to local and military personnel so we both got discounts on our dates to the museum. I particularly enjoy the art museums we have here. They’re a bit smaller than the museums I’ve been to on the Mainland and in Europe, but that just makes them more intimate and you can take your time exploring the exhibits.

12. Ice Cream/Coffee Run

The last budget friendly date idea is the simplest of them all, but coffee and ice cream are so enjoyable by most so this is never really a fail date. I recommend going on days that they offer discounts or sales to save a little, but in my opinion, coffee or ice cream is always worth the splurge. Together? Even better, I say.

Conclusion

These are some of the most fun dates that I have been on with my husband. It’s been harder to go on dates as often as we like since becoming parents and also because of the pandemic. However, when we do manage to find the time, we choose to do these activities because they are simple and budget friendly date ideas.

We can afford to splurge just a bit more here and there, but we love the idea of having fun and saving money at the same time. I mean, who doesn’t? Am I right? Budget friendly date ideas are the way to go.
